Ryan
Helm by Bill Davis
August, 2005 (Jupiter)...
Thirty year old Jupiter, Florida resident Ryan Helm hopes
to qualify this year for the WQS. The 2005 Pro-Tour is Ryan's
second attempt at attaining a spot on the WQS. Last year wasn't
really a solid attempt by Ryan, who only surfed several events.
This year could and should be different. If he is able to
get afew good solid sponsors it would definitely take a little
of the financial stress out of the picture. Ryan, who has
surfed for longer than he can remember, has been a Jupiter
standout for the last decade.
Although he lived for five yeas near Pasquales in Mexico,
where he honed his pro surfing abilities, he now resides back
in Jupiter. Staying fit during the off season, Ryan plays
soccer and free dives. Ryan's athletic abilities come from
good genetics, his dad is a well known local surfer nd his
brother is a pro soccer player. The goal this year is to concentrate
on making the WQS and so far his surfing has spoken strongly.
His standings at present are near the top 30 and with a few
more contest, like his last in Ecuador, will surely put him
above the magic thirty number. With strong support from his
wife, family and local crew, Ryan will be a force to be reckoned
with. His thanks and appreciation goes out to all the local
surfers and his family. This is one surfer any sponsor should
be proud to sign on. With his great attitude and values, we
will be seeing a lot more of him on the winners podium.
